Sleep Apnea Risks

Sleep apnea could increase your risk for a few side effects that are serious; in some cases life-threatening! Beyond complications of blood pressure and the heart, which it is known to cause, there is the risk of physical and psychological risks.

Depression and hallucinations, among others, are common among those who suffer from sleep apnea, also. A problem could emerge here if someone were to be driving while hallucinating an animal, as it crosses the road before them. They could react by swerving around the “animal”, thereby causing an accident. Suicide, injuries afflicted to the self and potential injuries brought upon other people, is always possible while dealing with psychotic conditions and depression.

Mental confusion often occurs, another risk of sleep apnea. This is proven by a scenario: Say they headed over to the shopping mall with their baby, only to “forget” that the child was with them. It is easy to see how this may result in a serious situation.

Fatigue also ranks among top concerns. Sleep apnea also has been linked to automobile accidents. Researchers from the US and Spain compared a group of 60 persons that had sleep apnea, with another group of 61, of the same age and gender, who didn’t have this disorder One third, 33%, of patients that have SAS (also, sleep apnea, symptoms) also suffered a minimum of one car accident within the last 3 years. Compare this to the 18% incidence in the group without SAS — this difference is statistically significant.
